Malfunction Screening by Audio

Does your car make a noise that sounds problematic? Many do, and we're fascinated by the science of using that sound to gain insight into the problem. Beginning in late 2023, we began building an annotated training library of malfunction-related sounds for 7 categories of the most common audible automobile faults. We currently operate an API that uses a short recording to predict which of the categories that recording likely belongs to. We also develop our own front ends for it, designed by and for by blue-collar users, optimized to reduce the hassle of (trying to) use a capacitive touchscreen in less-than-ideal settings. Below are links to, and a brief description of, products in this family.

An audio screening tool for the everyday noises cars make, accessible from any internet-connected device with a web browser- Android, iOs, Windows, Mac and more- without having to visit and search the App Store to install. Just type carnoise.wtf into the URL bar of your device's browser, and start recording. No subscriptions required- pre-purchased tokens are used to submit a recording. This product and its pricing structure are optimized for occasional use by vehicle owners looking to determine whether their car emits any sounds indicative of a major vehicle malfunction. And of course, it's based on our simplified UI/UX philosophy so it will work with greasy fingers.

Use your iOs device to automatically classify car noises, squeaks, rattles, and other vehicle sounds

COMING SOON- Engine diagnostics by audio, for the professional user. Distinguish with high accuracy between valvetrain noises, lower end noises, and exhaust leaks that mimic valvetrain noises. Did you know that many of the distinguishing characteristics of these noises are imperceptible to the human ear? We do, and we think it's pretty neat what a computer can see in the audio signal, that even the best mechanic can't. Expected release in early/mid 2026.

We built most of the analysis model for this product in 2023, but decided to commercialize other products first. We're currently soliciting industry feedback on which features to include. If you have something to contribute to this process, please email info@solanum-service.com .
